TeachingAbigail is much in demand as a music educator, workshop leader and
orchestral/chamber music tutor. A “dedicated, passionate and selfless teacher, musician and inspirer” she is known for her positive and inclusive teaching style and her desire to encourage others to enjoy music making as much as she does. Her current roles include a diverse range of teaching environments and levels ranging from nursery and primary school age children to secondary and university education and adult learners. Abigail is the original teacher musician for upper strings at In Harmony Lambeth www.ihse.org.uk/lambeth where she teaches violin, viola, chamber/orchestral music and classroom music. She is the upper strings tutor at Our Lady’s Convent High school in Hackney www.ourladys.hackney.sch.uk and tutors holiday courses and workshops with The Strings Club www.thestringsclub.org. Abigail is a great believer in the social impacts of community music making. In the summer of 2010 Abigail travelled to Sri-Lanka to help in the beginnings of a social cohesion music programme inspired by the Venezuelan ‘El Sistema’.During this time Abigail worked training teachers to carry out the programme in the central and southern areas of the country and also with the youth orchestra and University of southern Sri-Lanka. Abigail is the co-founder, co-director and leader of the Chamber Academy Orchestra www.chamberacademy.co.uk and leader of the Angel Orchestra www.the-angel-orchestra.co.uk as well as guest leader and coach for many other orchestras, chamber groups, courses and study days. In these roles she has gained valuable experience in working with adult learners of all levels. In 2012 Abigail was invited to give a workshop as part of Surrey Arts’ ‘Playing with the Stars’ event and regularly directs workshops designed for adult learners ranging from complete beginners to semi-professional musicians. Abigail is available to design and direct workshops for all ages and abilities, to teach violin and viola, and as a music education consultant. |
